Despite the lingering summer heat, September at The Kelly Group brought a renewed sense of energy as Harford County settled into the rhythm of another back-to-school season and began preparing for the final months of the year.

Our team remained dedicated to fostering meaningful relationships and giving back to the Harford County community. Whether it was supporting local school initiatives or gearing up for upcoming fall and holiday events, we stayed focused on making a difference. We’re grateful for the chance to continue serving our clients and neighbors as we look ahead to a busy and fulfilling season.

The 2024 Albert P. Close Foundation Event

The Kelly Group was pleased to once again sponsor and attend the annual Albert P. Close Foundation event on September 4th at Stone Ridge Hollow in Forest Hill. The event successfully raised essential funds to support Harford County’s at-risk youth, including new mothers and substance-exposed newborns.

Attending from The Kelly Group were Jacob and Shannon Adkins, Julie Shearman, Rick and Vanessa Fletcher, Michael and Denise Bertrand, Carrie Anderson, Caryn Ches, and Chad Arrington. The Kelly Group’s Michele Wolbert serves on the board of the Close Foundation. Although Michele was unable to attend this year, her crucial role in planning the event ensured that it was a wonderful evening for all.

Harford County Public Library launched its Game Changers Business Speakers Series, with Dr. Anirban Basu, Chairman & CEO of the Sage Policy Group, Inc., on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. The event was held at the Abingdon Library. The Kelly Group is thrilled to be a lead sponsor of the HCPL Foundation's Game Changers Business Speakers Series!

Dr. Basu delivered an exceptional presentation that was as informative as it was engaging, diving deep into the major factors shaping our economic landscape—interest rates, global conflicts, wage dynamics, and business confidence. His insights into past trends and future predictions were both thought-provoking and enlightening, sprinkled with his signature wit.

Retiree Appreciation Day at the U.S. Army Garrison at Aberdeen Proving Ground

The U.S. Army Garrison in Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland hosted a Retiree Appreciation Day on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, from 9 AM to 1 PM. The event was held at the Post Rec Center. The event was open to military retirees, their spouses and other family members, and active-duty service members who want to learn more about retirement.

Rick Fletcher CFP®, ChFEBC, and Julie Shearman, FPQP®, were honored to represent The Kelly Group at the Aberdeen Proving Ground Retiree Appreciation Day event in support of our military families. The Kelly Group provided information about our firm, financial planning, wealth management, Social Security & Medicare, Retiree Benefits and the Hartford Community College courses we teach each semester.

The Historical Society of Harford County’s 2024 Annual Dinner

On September 22, 2024, Rick and Vanessa Fletcher were honored to represent The Kelly Group at The Historical Society of Harford County’s 2024 Annual Dinner, celebrating our commitment to community engagement and heritage.  

The event took place at the Historical Society’s newly renovated headquarters in Bel Air. Guests enjoyed a presentation by reenactor Alisa Dupuy as Adrienne de Lafayette, wife of General Lafayette, a hero of the American Revolution. One of the evening’s highlights was witnessing George Harrison (current Vice President and Financial Chair) receive the Archer Fellow Award for his long-term service and dedication to The Historical Society of Harford County.

Katherine Kelly and Michele Wolbert attended the 2024 Harford Community College President’s Circle Dinner on September 25 at the Maryland Golf & Country Clubs. This esteemed annual gathering celebrates the generous donors whose contributions to the HCC Foundation are vital in providing scholarships to deserving students. During the event, The Kelly Group was honored to be inducted into the O’Connell Society, a distinguished group of benefactors whose lifetime donations exceed $50,000.

This gathering of the financial planning industry provided invaluable insights that we’re eager to apply to better serve our cherished clients and community. We explored cutting-edge approaches to retirement planning, tax optimization, and estate planning that can help secure your financial future. We attended sessions on the latest technology tools and applications in financial planning to further equip us with new ways to enhance our services. We also gained fresh perspectives on how to help clients make sound financial decisions, especially during times of uncertainty and volatility.
